dım dım dım dam dım dım dım - a song to say goodbye

why is that song, in essence, so simple yet so touching? it's been that way for the last 6 years or so, and probably continue to be that way. and i'm pretty sure it's not about the video. i've first listened to that sans the video, and it really touched me. however, the video did nothing but amplify that effect - possibly thousandfold.
